Catherine's Annual Festive Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a selection of carols, music and readings from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
