This January transfer market is always a period of intense speculation and possible major deals. A number of notable players are being linked with transfers out of their present clubs. We examine a selection of the major names that could be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite Ghana's inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the forward available, it appears an important move is close. This Bournemouth attacker has a contract featuring a sizeable buy-out clause active for a short period in early January. Latest developments point to the Premier League champions look to have won the race for his services. Former suitors such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have turned their attention to other targets, potentially opening the door for clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute move.

Marc Guéhi

The England defender has excel for Palace despite a previous transfer to Liverpool collapsing. With his deal set to expire in the close season, this represents the club's last chance to secure a transfer fee for their captain. A host of elite sides, including City and several European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to hold an interest. Yet, a winter departure remains difficult, particularly given the manager's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

The Welsh forward has found starting minutes hard to come by at Tottenham this campaign. Although being the side's leading goalscorer last season, Johnson has started only a handful of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the London outfit is willing to consider a transfer for the right valuation, thought to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal midfielder could be poised for a return to the English top flight after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Now only 28, and with his contract ending in the summer, he represents a possible opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United are linked with the player. Additionally, there are rumours from Spanish media that he would be willing to take a reduced salary for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced Germany goalkeeper is now as third-choice at Barcelona under the coach Flick. After lost his place and undergone surgery, a winter exit seems highly probable. Aston Villa were initially mentioned as a possible suitor, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

The proven England centre-forward has continued finding the net regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of making the England World Cup. However, securing a transfer poses significant hurdles. His current club do not wish to part with him, and his alleged huge weekly wages make any agreement complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been linked as interested parties.

C. Gallagher

The dynamic midfielder attracted widespread interest in the summer but stayed at Atlético. Having limited starts in Spain this term, he is eager to secure more minutes ahead of the tournament. Manchester United are strongly linked, and a return to Selhurst Park, a club he shone on loan, is also a possibility, though financial demands could be a stumbling block.

Harvey Elliott

Despite excelling and being named the best player award at the Under-21 European Championship in the summer, the young player has found it tough for minutes on loan at Villa. Unai Emery has stated the temporary transfer won't become permanent. Because of specific rules about playing for multiple teams in a season, a return to Liverpool before next summer appears to be the only viable solution.

Kenan Yildiz

This exciting Turkey forward has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this term. As his existing deal running down, many English sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but are in a race to keep one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

This highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. The teenager is heavily expected to make a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but are facing stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing valued at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
